Opera Slice

If you’re a coffee lover or a fan of rich, layered cakes, our new Opera Slice is here to hit the high notes. Available for a limited time only, this French favourite has been reimagined by our talented bakery team to include two things that we’re known for: our signature espresso and famous buttercream.

Originating in Paris in the 1950s, the Opera Cake is traditionally made with layers of almond sponge, coffee buttercream and dark chocolate ganache. While our version stays true to the classic, it has a few tweaks you’ll only find at Shingle Inn.

We caught up with Eka, our Bakery Manager, for more information:

“We wanted to honour the original French recipe but give it that Shingle Inn flavour. So, we soaked the sponge layers in real espresso syrup with a splash of coffee liqueur. Then we layered it with our rich chocolate ganache and the same buttercream we’ve used in our cakes for decades,” Eka said.

“It’s rich, light and so smooth. Like a dessert version of your favourite cappuccino.”
