Belmont Forum recognises the importance of our environment and as such have developed an on-site Environmental Committee who are responsible for identifying environmental issues at the centre and implementing improvement strategies to reduce their impact on our environment.

Current issues that Belmont Forum is addressing include recycling and waste management, energy consumption, water consumption, hazardous chemicals and indoor environment quality.

Belmont Forum is keen to build a community of environmentally aware, committed, active and informed people who will actively seek ways to minimise their impact on the environment, and think seriously about the future.

In 2005 Belmont Forum launched the Earthbeat program, which focuses on sustainability in the area of recycling, waste management, energy and water conservation. In the two years since the inception of this program we have achieved the following;

• Reduced power by 8%, which is the equivalent of using 10 x 100 watt globes for 31.7 years.
• Recycled 30% of our waste (224 tonnes), which is the equivalent of removing 224 cubic meters of landfill.
• Reduced water use by 38%,which is equivalent to saving 24,517 KL water or 9.8 Olympic sized swimming pools.
