Australians all let us rejoice for Public Holidays
Topic: Belmont Forum20 Jan
I'm not the most patriotic person, but there's something special
about Australia Day. Maybe it's because we get a day off work.
Maybe because it's the day before my birthday and I feel like the
fireworks are especially for me. Either way, Australia Day and all
other public holidays should be made the most of. Here is my
suggested itinerary.Morning: You shouldn't see it. You finally have a chance to sleep in! Warn the kids, light some scented overnight candles (Dusk), and don't leave your bed until 10am. At least.
Late morning: Its time to embrace the day. Choose a picnic spot (I always go for the beach) and call up your mates. You're going to need a large esky (Kmart), a few six packs of your favorite beer (Liquorland), a picnic blanket (Red Dot), a cricket set, frisbee or footy (Big W) and of course food. Don't forget the food!
Evening; End your perfect day with a bang! Literally. There's something special about watching fireworks with thousands of other people. Head down to the foreshore and bring along a deck chair (Big W) and a portable radio (Dick Smith Electronics) so you can sit in comfort and watch the fireworks explode to their own soundtrack.
Whatever your plans for Australia Day, make them count. For most of us, it's back to a 6am wake up the next morning. But don't worry, there's only one month until the next public holiday so stay excited and start counting down the days. I know I will!
